Refine Your Golf In Malaga -Mijas Golf Resort
The Mijas Golf Resort is located just a 30 minute drive from Malaga airport. Take the Fuengirola Coin turn off from the motorway and follow the road named Camino Viejo de Coin. The course is about 3 and a half kilometers from the highway.
Mijas Golf has made a great effort to satisfy the needs of its many users who wants to play golf in Malaga on the Costa del Sol, and to that end, the course comes with all conveniences. There is a practice area, buggy hire, manual and electric trolleys, putting green, places to get a drink and a bite to eat, shop, changing rooms, showers and parking. Furthermore, running throughout the grounds, there are places to buy water and other drinks plus toilets. There is also the opportunity to participate in golf technique classes.
Mijas Golf Resort offers two Golf Courses:
Los Olivos founded in 1983/84 & Los Lagos founded in 1976. Both courses are designed by Robert Trent Senior. The main thing that distinguishes Los Olivos from Los Lagos is the abundance of trees - hence the name - and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended. Even though both are the work of the same designer, there is beyond doubt interesting contrasts between the two courses: if Los Lagos are based on challenges of water and sand, Los Olivos is strategic narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens. Generally the course favors the precision golfer rather than the big hitter.
Los Lagos is a ground course with wide fairways and quite a few trees obstacles, but is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes, from which the course gets its name and which easily trap the ball. It is a course with soft movement and large greens. You could say that the American designer wanted to present a course especially for amateurs, but simultaneously, it can present a challenge for the best players. One of "Los Lagos" most characteristic and difficult holes is the par five thirteenth. Seen from elevated tees it looks deceptively easy but at the approach to the green there is water left and right, also beware of the hill as even a well hit shot is in danger of rolling off the green into the water hazard. The 5th a 571 meter monster, is also "interesting". The course is almost free of rough and is practically flat except for a insignificant incline up the 18th hole.
There is an amazing selection of restaurants and bars within the golf resort, whilst the nearby town of Fuengirola also offers a range of restaurants, along with a cinema and various shops.
The beautiful white village of Mijas, famous for its donkey-drawn taxis, is placed high atop the mountains with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and a number of municipalities of the Costa del Sol below. Within just a ten minute drive lies some of the best rated beaches imaginable, providing the perfect setting for peace and relaxation.
