Leatherman Kick Multi Tool - An Appealing Option That's Compact But Still Equipped With Useful Tools

The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a series of 3 tools produced by Leatherman, the alternative's are the Fuse and the Blast.

Leatherman Kick - Lighter In Weight

The Leatherman Kick has plastic set into the handle scales which makes it much more comfortable to grip than the old PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a much called for addition, as anyone who has bought and used a PST will confirm! The pliers head has been updated to increase strength without increasing the multi tool's size or mass, and seems to have worked nicely- they are a little odd to look at for people who are used to other tools, nevertheless this is a tool, not a fashion show, and they work.

The Leatherman Kick also incorporates a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, a couple of flathead screwdrivers, as well as a clip- point blade. The tool options may be bare on this one, but remember, it is the smallest of the three models. The upside is that the tools (specifically the screwdrivers) appear to be slightly better than other multi's - the shafts are slightly longer, allowing a slightly more versatility than usual, and an improved chance at hard to reach screws. It's a minor detail, but it really does add up - to a lot when it's the only tool you have by your side and the screw is buried inside of something.

Note the Extended Screwdriver

There is no doubt about it, the Kick is a nice tool, but it does have it's drawbacks. Because of it's low weight, the Kick feels flimsy. As it is backed by Leatherman's 25 year guarantee, it is very well made, but in comparison to many other tools both larger and smaller in size, it doesn't appear to be quite as strong. It also might seem a little small to people with larger hands.

On an important note, despite the lack of numerous tools on this tool, it does suffer from Leatherman's infamous curse, tool clumping. How is it that a handle with just three tools built in, all come out in the event that you try to get only one? With each new generation of pocket tools, this issue should be a distant memory.

The Leatherman Kick is a decent tool at a good price, but not a good choice for a heavy user or a bigger person. My suggestion is that it's better suited as a small tool for a lady's purse or as a child's first tool. It could be regarded as a "cute" tool for people that rarely need tools although like to be prepared.
